Day Book: First Sunday of Lent, First Sunday of Spring Break

From the Collect
"O God who dost purify thy Church by the yearly observance of forty days; grant to Thy household that what we strive to obtain from Thee by self denial we may secure by good works."

Outside my window...rainy and cool.

I am praying for..the soul of a young man, a friend of my daughter's, that lost his battle with depression this weekend. For his family and friends and for all those souls struggling to find hope on this earthly journey.

I am thankful...for our annual tradition with our friends to meet at different churches during Lent to pray the Stations of the Cross together, and enjoy a Lenten meal, usually that parish's fish fry fundraiser. I like to call it our Flash Prayer Mob for Lent. This Lent we started at a country parish about 45 minutes north of us, selected because a priest offers confession before, during and after the Stations, a chance for us all to get in. Good to start Lent of fortified and clean.

In the kitchen...Craig thought this rainy cold weather called for stew and cooked up a big pot and we are finishing off the Italian cream birthday cake.

I am reading...aloud with the kids:
Amon's Adventure: a family story for Easter by Ytreeide

I am listening sermon on homeschooling through

I am looking forward to...a couple of spontaneous outings with my kids while they are off for spring break to refresh and encourage them before returning to their studies.

A favorite quote/verse/prayer for today... Today's Epistle: II Corinthians 6: 1 - 10

Brethren, We exhort you that you receive not the grace of God in vain. For He saith: In an accepted time have I heard thee, and in the day of salvation have I helped thee. Behold, now is the acceptable time, behold now is the day of salvation. Giving no offense to any man, that our ministry be not blamed: but in all things let us exhibit ourselves as the ministers of God,
in much patience,
in tribulation,
in necessities,
in distresses,
in stripes, in prisons, in seditions,
in labors, in watchings,
in fastings, in chastity,
in knowledge, in long-suffering,
in sweetness, in the Holy Ghost,
in charity unfeigned,
in the word of truth,
in the power of God,
by the armor of justice on the right hand and on the left: by honor and dishonor,
by evil report and good report: as deceivers and yet true,
as unknown and yet known:
as dying, and behold we live:
as chastised and not killed:
as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing:
as needy, yet enriching many:
as having nothing and possessing all things.  all things.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
to spend time with my kids, enjoying them, thanking God for their lives while we continue mostly the same routines during spring break:
Trying to add daily Mass, attend a funeral, attend stations of the cross, takes my kids and their friends to heir science classes, TKD and music classes.
