7 Friday Quick Takes

1. A vocal pro life elected official
With the election just days away, it is good to focus on something positive, and see an elected official stand up for something right. Houston Councilwoman Helena Brown invites her fellow council members and the city of Houston to pray for life.

Fake pics
People were having fun with the hurricane in its first hours, putting up fake pictures on social sites, but this takes the cake.

Novus ordo done right
We went to the local church for All Saints Mass. Our parish is a traditional mass. So when we attend a local church, sometimes we are a little uncomfortable with the liberties taken by some parishes. This one in particular had at one time a Deacon running the show with the priest not celebrating mass, just a Sunday Communion service. (not ok).  I check in on an occasional daily mass or stations of the cross. This new priest is a delightful surprise. First, he heard confession before mass! What a gift that is to his parish! There were only boy altar servers and an MC. The mass was reverent; the sermon had us talking after Mass; it was beautiful.

4 Prayer for Priests. After marveling at the changes to the local church with a new vibrant, faithful priest, makes me remember how much we need to pray for our priests and pray for more good priests to help us along.

LORD JESUS CHRIST,

eternal High Priest, you offered yourself to the
Father on the altar of the Cross and through the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly
people a share in your redeeming sacrifice.
Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests.
Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial
priesthood may be ever more conformed to you,
the divine Master. May they preach the
Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.
Let them be shepherds according to your own Heart,
single- minded in service to you and to the Church
and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.
Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the flocks
entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where
you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

AMEN

Gas prices
Why is there a 50 cent difference in regular to diesel?! Yes, I have a diesel engine. I saw a 64 difference yesterday. Someone said gas prices were falling, I haven't felt it.

Happy Feast of All Souls and it is a First Friday!

Pray for them.  Some day it may be us, sitting, hoping, suffering and awaiting the kindness of prayers of those here on earth. People now days want to think when their loved one died, they went straight to heaven. Well, as I teach my Sunday school kids, we might die with a little dirt (which is sin) on our souls, and we can  not go to heaven dirty (with sin); our souls need to be beautifully white just as after Baptism. It's like going to a party, (which is heaven), dirty, and everyone there is glittery white and clean. We would want to be clean and glittery white too. So purgatory is there to clean it up for us, only we have to have someone else help get clean to get us there. Not worded well, but the kids usually get it.

Wouldn't it be great to empty purgatory this week, and have that many more friends waiting our arrival when it is our time?

Prayer to Our Suffering Savior for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

O most sweet Jesus,

through the bloody sweat
which Thou didst suffer
in the Garden of Gethsemane,
have mercy on these Blessed Souls.
Have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus,

through the pains
which Thou didst suffer
during Thy most cruel scourging,
have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus,

through the pains
which Thou didst suffer
in Thy most painful crowning with thorns,
have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus,

through the pains
which Thou didst suffer
in carrying Thy cross to Calvary,
have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus,

through the pains
which Thou didst suffer
during Thy most cruel Crucifixion,
have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus,

through the pains
which Thou didst suffer
in Thy most bitter agony on the Cross,
have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus,

through the immense pain
which Thou didst suffer
in breathing forth Thy Blessed Soul,
have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

(Recommend yourself to the Souls in Purgatory and mention your intentions here)

Blessed Souls,

I have prayed for thee;
I entreat thee, who are so dear to God,
and who are secure of never losing Him,
to pray for me a miserable sinner,
who is in danger of being damned,
and of losing God forever. Amen.

  1. #5 to the best of my understanding its a supply and demand thing...mainly due to the fact that much of the rest of the world depends on diesel, thereby driving up our prices here. If you hear differently, please let me know....
thank you for #7, just prayed it. and #6 is just lovely, I will be borrowing that!
